Animal Chiropractic in Cypress TX - Pet Adjustments

IF IT HAS A SPINE, IT CAN BE ADJUSTED!

Since the late 1800’s, millions of people have had the quality of their lives improved by chiropractic care. But what about their animals?? Have you ever seen a dog that has trouble getting up or “walks funny”? Have you ever had a pet that doesn’t seem to want to chew hard food or rawhide bones anymore? What about your faithful lap dog that has to be picked up and placed into your lap because they don’t like to jump on the furniture anymore?
Animals have the same problems with pain in the spine and extremities that people do. We may not notice it as much because they can’t tell us in the same way we can. The best way to determine if an animal is experiencing pain is by simply watching them. It’s a little harder to figure out because animals are “hard wired” to not show weaknesses until it gets so bad they can’t hide it anymore. Here are just a few things to look for in the family dog that might indicate they are in need of chiropractic care:

Gets up slowly
Loss of appetite
Holds one leg up while standing
“Favors” one limb when walking
Doesn’t seem to want to get up on furniture anymore
Hesitates to get down off of furniture
Has difficulty eating unless food/water dishes are raised
Holds head differently than normal
Cries or growls when pet in certain areas
Becomes less social or more lethargic
Head shaking more frequently
Urinary/fecal incontinence

Athletic dogs are even more noticeable by their owners who spend countless hours training them for their particular sport. For these animals include the following observations:

Slower times in the arena
Seems to have more difficulty turning to one side more than another (agility)
Won’t sit/stay at appropriate place
Trouble going up or down obstacles
Can’t seem to catch that Frisbee as well lately

Horses can also experience pain just like the rest of us. It can sometimes be seen more in our athletic/performance horses but any one of them is susceptible. Our athletic performing/rodeo horses place incredible amounts of force on their joints in the extremities and spine especially with the added weight of a rider. Look for the following signs of a horse in need of adjustment:

Trouble making certain turns while barrel racing
Seems to veer to one side while jumping
Doesn’t like having saddle put on
Holds one leg off the ground
Poor gate
Ferrier having more trouble than usual picking up feet
Difficulty reining
Tail swishing to one side more than another on a consistent basis
Any type of visual imbalance when horse is standing still and squared up

Chiropractic care for animals is a great way to help them heal naturally. Just like in humans, giving animals drugs on a regular basis to cover up chronic pain isn’t always the best way to go. Pain drugs are used to make animals comfortable while they heal naturally and chiropractic is a great way to give the healing a huge jump-start!
